Tools required to adjust the automatic transmission cable:
* Set of keys
* Pliers
* Ruler or tape measure
* Assistant (optional)
Steps to adjust the automatic transmission cable:
1. Place the vehicle in Park (P) and apply the parking brake.
2. Determine the length of the cable.
*Refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual for the recommended cable length for your model.
*If you don’t have a manual, you can measure the current cable length from the end of the lug to the end of the adjusting sleeve.
3. Find the cable adjustment point.
*The adjustment point is usually located near the throttle valve or carburetor.
*Look for an adjustment bolt or coupling that can be rotated.
4. Loosen the locknut of the adjusting bolt or coupling.
5. Adjust the cable length.
* If the cable is too long, shorten it by turning the adjusting bolt or sleeve clockwise.
* If the cable is too short, lengthen it by turning the adjusting bolt or sleeve counterclockwise.
*Adjust the cable until it matches the recommended length.
6. Make sure the cable has some slack.
* The cable should not be too tight. Leave a little slack (about 1-2 cm) between the cable end and the throttle body or carburetor.
7. Tighten the locknut of the adjusting bolt or coupling.
8. Check gear shifting.
* Start the engine and change gears.
* Ensure that gear shifts smoothly and without slipping or hesitation.
9. If necessary, repeat steps 5 through 8 to make further adjustments.
Adviсe:
*If you have an assistant, have him press the brake pedal while making adjustments to ensure even cable operation.
* Do not overtighten the locknut. This may damage the adjusting bolt or coupling.
* If you have difficulty adjusting the automatic transmission cable, contact an experienced mechanic.
