Toyota automatic transmission adaptation stages
1. Check the fluid level in the automatic transmission.
* Place the car on a flat surface with the engine running and move the automatic transmission selector to the “P” position.
* On most Toyota models, the fluid level is checked through a control hole with a plug. If you can’t find it with a plug, then check it with a dipstick.
* Check the fluid level, make sure it is between the “min” and “max” marks on the dipstick or in the inspection hole.
*Add fluid if necessary, using only Toyota automatic transmission fluid recommended for your vehicle model.
2. Clear adaptive data.
* Connect the OBD-II scanner to the vehicle’s diagnostic connector.
* Find in the scanner menu the option to reset automatic transmission adaptive data (for example, “reset automatic transmission adaptations”).
*Follow the instructions on the scanner screen to reset the data.
3. Warm up the engine and automatic transmission.
* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes until it warms up.
* Move the automatic transmission selector to each position for a few seconds, holding for a few seconds in each position.
* Return the automatic transmission selector to position “P”.
4. Drive the car in different driving modes.
* While the vehicle is moving, change gear shift modes (for example, from “D” to “S” or “L”).
* Use different driving modes (such as “Eco” or “Power”).
* Drive in hilly areas or in traffic jams where you have to change gears frequently.
5. Repeat warming up the engine and automatic transmission.
* After driving the car, return to step 3 and repeat the process of warming up the engine and automatic transmission.
6. Check adaptive data.
* Connect the OBD-II scanner to the vehicle’s diagnostic connector.
*Check the automatic transmission adaptive data to ensure it has been reset successfully.
7. Update the automatic transmission software (if necessary).
*Check your Toyota dealer for automatic transmission software updates.
* If an update is available, install it to improve automatic transmission performance.
Note:
*The time required to complete automatic transmission adaptation varies depending on the vehicle model and driving conditions.
* If, after adapting the automatic transmission, you experience problems with gear shifting or other problems, contact your Toyota dealership for further diagnosis.
