Parking in a parking lot or garage

1. Find a suitable parking spot: Look around the driveway and find an available parking spot that suits the size of your vehicle.
2. Turn in D: Shift into D (Drive) and slowly drive into the parking space.
3. Stop at a landmark: Stop the car approximately 30-60 cm from the curb or any other obstacle for a landmark.
4. Engage P gear: Move the gear lever to P (Park) position. On some vehicles, this requires pressing the lock button.
5. Apply the handbrake: Pull the handbrake lever to further secure the vehicle in place.
6. Place the vehicle in gear: Engage R (Reverse), then shift back to P. This will prevent the transmission from locking up if the handbrake is accidentally released.

Parallel parking

1. Find a parking spot: Find a spot that is twice the length of your car.
2. Align a parallel parked vehicle: Align your vehicle parallel to the parked vehicle in front, leaving a distance of approximately 30 cm.
3. Engage gear R and turn the steering wheel: Engage gear R and turn the steering wheel all the way to the right.
4. Reverse: Back up slowly until the rear corner of your vehicle is approximately level with the parked car’s bumper.
5. Level the vehicle: Straighten the steering wheel and continue to reverse until your vehicle is parallel to the curb.
6. Turn the wheels in the opposite direction: When about half of your car is in the parking space, turn the steering wheel all the way in the opposite direction.
7. Back up and straighten out: Back up slowly and level your vehicle with the curb or other obstacle.
8. Shift into P gear and apply the handbrake: Follow steps 4-6 of the parking lot instructions.
