Automatic transmission flushing fluids
* Specialized fluids for automatic transmission flushing: Specially developed compositions designed to remove contaminants and deposits from automatic transmissions.
*Dexron Fluid (or equivalent): A transmission fluid often used for automatic transmission flushing due to its cleaning properties.
* Acetone or kerosene (for metal automatic transmissions only): Solvents that can effectively dissolve deposits, but their use is not recommended as they can damage the rubber and plastic components of the automatic transmission.
Automatic transmission flushing procedure
1. Prepare:
* Check the level and condition of the automatic transmission fluid before flushing.
*Gather necessary tools and materials, including drain hose, funnel and waste container.
2. Connect the hose to the drain hole:
* Locate the drain hole at the bottom of the automatic transmission housing.
* Connect one end of the hose to the drain hole.
3. Fill in flushing fluid:
* Pour 2-3 liters of flushing fluid into the automatic transmission crankcase.
4. Start the engine and put the gear in neutral:
* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Move the gear lever to the neutral position.
5. Pump fluid:
* Press the brake pedal and shift the gear selector between Park and Neutral.
*Do this for 10-15 minutes until liquid starts to come out of the drain hose.
6. Drain the flushing fluid:
* When the flush fluid becomes dark and dirty, drain it by placing the other end of the hose in a waste container.
* Repeat the flushing and draining procedure until the flushing fluid is clear.
7. Install the drain plug:
* Dry the drain hole and install the drain plug.
8. Replace the automatic transmission filter (if necessary):
* If the automatic transmission filter is dirty or clogged, it must be replaced before adding new oil.
9. Fill the automatic transmission with new oil:
* Pour the required amount of new oil into the automatic transmission crankcase.
* Check the level and adjust if necessary.
