Driving a car with an automatic transmission (automatic transmission)
Before starting the engine:
* Apply the parking brake.
* Place the gear shift lever in the “P” (park) position.
Starting the engine:
* Insert the key into the ignition.
* Depress the brake pedal and hold it.
* Turn the ignition key to start the engine.
* Release the brake pedal.
Gear shift:
* D (Drive): For driving forward.
* N (Neutral): Neutral position, engine running.
* R (Reverse): Move backwards.
* P (Park): Parking, transmission locked.
* S (Sport): Sport mode, sharper gear shifting.
* L (Low): Low gear, for climbing steep hills or accelerating hard.
Moving forward:
* Take your foot off the parking brake.
* Press the accelerator pedal and the car will start moving.
* Release the accelerator pedal to slow down the vehicle.
Reverse movement:
* Make sure the path is clear.
* Press and hold the brake pedal.
* Set the gear shift lever to “R” position.
* Slowly release the brake pedal and gently press the accelerator.
Stop:
* Take your foot off the accelerator pedal.
* Press the brake pedal to stop the car.
* Set the gear shift lever to “P” position.
* Apply the parking brake.
Important Tips:
* Do not shift into neutral (N) while the vehicle is moving.
* Do not keep your foot on the brake pedal while driving as this may cause the brakes to overheat.
* Avoid sudden acceleration and braking.
* Whenever possible, switch to manual control (if equipped) when driving down steep hills or towing.
* Maintain your automatic transmission regularly to extend its service life.
