Self-diagnosis of automatic transmission for various brands of cars

Toyota and Lexus

1. Set the gear selector to “P” (Park).
2. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position (without starting the engine).
3. Press the gas pedal all the way for 5 seconds.
4. Quickly release the gas pedal and press it again for 5 seconds.
5. Release the gas pedal and turn the key to the “off” position.
6. Wait 5 seconds, then turn the key back to the “on” position.

The error code will appear on the instrument panel as flashing lights.

Honda and Acura

1. Set the gear selector to “P” (Park).
2. Turn off the ignition.
3. Press and hold the odometer reset button, then turn the key to the “on” position.
4. Release the odometer reset button after the instrument panel lights flash.
5. Error codes will be displayed on the instrument panel.

Nissan and Infiniti

1. Set the gear selector to “P” (Park).
2. Press and hold the brake pedal, then turn the key to the “on” position.
3. Within 10 seconds, release the brake pedal, press it again and release.
4. An error code will be displayed on the instrument panel.

Ford

1. Set the gear selector to “P” (Park).
2. Turn off the ignition.
3. Press and hold buttons “1” and “2” on the instrument panel, then turn the key to the “on” position.
4. Release the buttons and wait until the error code is displayed on the instrument panel.

Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep

1. Set the gear selector to “P” (Park).
2. Turn off the ignition.
3. Press and hold the odometer reset button, then turn the key to the “on” position.
4. Release the odometer reset button and wait until the error code is displayed on the instrument panel.

If the instrument panel does not display an error code:

*Check whether the instructions have been followed correctly.
* Turn the ignition off and on again.
*If the error code still does not appear, contact your mechanic.

Note:

*Error codes may vary depending on vehicle make and model.
*A special scanner may be required to decipher error codes.
* Be careful when performing self-diagnosis and follow all instructions carefully.
