Note: Disabling the transmission in a vehicle with an automatic transmission should only be done in emergency situations.

For front wheel drive vehicles:

1. Stop the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
2. Open the hood and locate the shift cable (usually a red or blue plastic housing).
3. Remove the latch that holds the cable to the gear shift lever.
4. Move the cable approximately 10 cm from the gear shift lever.
5. Close the hood.

For vehicles with rear wheel drive:

1. Stop the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
3. Raise the rear of the car with a jack and place supports under it.
4. Remove the driveshaft by disconnecting it from the transfer case and rear axle.
5. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.

General tips:

* Disabling the transmission may cause damage to the transmission, so should be avoided if possible.
* If disengaging the transmission is necessary, do so carefully and avoid excessive force.
* After disabling the gearbox, the vehicle will only be able to drive at minimum speed in neutral gear.
* After eliminating the reason why the transmission needed to be disconnected, be sure to reconnect it.
* To reconnect the shift cable, insert it back into the latch on the shift lever and lock the latch. For rear wheel drive vehicles, reinstall the driveshaft.
