Before proceeding, please note that disabling the transmission lock may damage the transmission.
Tools:
* Wrench
Materials:
* Wire or cable tie
Steps:
1. Locate the lockup solenoid: This is usually located on the side of the transmission. It will have two wires going to it.
2. Disconnect the wires: Strip the insulation from the wires and disconnect them.
3. Attach the wires together: Twist the wires together and secure them in position using wire or a cable tie. This way, current will continue to flow to the solenoid.
4. Reinstall the wires: Reinstall the wires with their insulation.
5. Check operation: Start the engine and shift into a lock-up gear (usually Overdrive or fourth gear). Try accelerating to a speed where the lock would normally engage. If you don’t feel any push or grip, the lock is disabled.
Additional notes:
*If you are unsure of the location of the lockout solenoid or do not want to perform this procedure yourself, consult a mechanic.
*Remember that disabling the transmission lock may reduce fuel economy and increase transmission wear.
* It is recommended to engage the transmission lock under normal driving conditions.
