Tools and materials:

* Trouble code reader (OBD-II)
* Automatic transmission scanning tool (for example, Nissan Consult)
* OBD-II cable
* Clean rag

Instructions for diagnosing Nissan automatic transmission:

1. Check the transmission fluid level:

*Place the vehicle with the parking brake on a level surface.
* Let the engine idle for a few minutes.
* Pull out the transmission fluid dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth.
* Reinsert the dipstick and pull it out. The fluid level should be between the “MIN” and “MAX” marks on the dipstick.

2. Connect the fault code reader:

*Locate the OBD-II diagnostic connector under the dashboard (usually located on the left side).
* Connect the code reader to the OBD-II connector.
* Turn on the ignition without starting the engine.

3. Read fault codes:

*On the code reader, follow the on-screen instructions to read trouble codes.
* Write down the fault code(s) and determine their meaning.

4. Use an automatic transmission scanning tool (optional):

* Connect the automatic transmission scanning tool to the vehicle’s OBD-II connector.
* Follow the on-screen instructions on the scanner to read automatic transmission trouble codes and other diagnostic data.

5. Check for mechanical faults:

* Check for transmission fluid leaks.
* Check the condition of the cables and gear shift levers.
* Make sure there is no abnormal noise or vibration when shifting gears.

6. Analysis of results:

* Analyze trouble codes using a repair manual or online resources.
* Consider possible causes of trouble codes and symptoms of automatic transmission malfunction.

7. Take action:

* Follow recommended troubleshooting steps.
* Reset fault codes after troubleshooting.
* Re-check to ensure automatic transmission problems have been resolved.

Note:

*Some Nissan models may require a special tool or software to diagnose the automatic transmission.
*If you are unsure of your diagnostic skills, consult a qualified mechanic.
