Method 1: Checking the VIN plate
* Open the hood and look for the VIN plate.
* It is usually located on the top of the radiator or on the front wall of the engine compartment.
* The last two characters in the VIN number correspond to the type of automatic transmission:
| Symbols | Automatic transmission type |
|—|—|
| A2 | 4-speed automatic transmission |
| A3 | 5-speed automatic transmission |
| A4 | 6-speed automatic transmission |
| A5 | 7-speed automatic transmission |
| A6 | 8-speed automatic transmission |
| A7 | 9-speed automatic transmission |
Method 2: Checking the option code in the service book
* Look in the service book for the section with option codes.
*This section is usually found at the beginning or end of the book.
*Look for option code starting with “G”.
* The last two characters of this code correspond to the type of automatic transmission (see table in method 1).
Method 3: Identification by the label on the automatic transmission
* Locate the automatic transmission under the hood.
* Find the label or plate on the automatic transmission itself.
* The label will indicate the part number, which usually contains information about the type of automatic transmission.
Example:
*VIN number: WDD2120451A123456
*Last two characters of VIN number: A4
* Automatic transmission type: 6-speed automatic transmission
