Method 1: checking by VIN number
1. Find the vehicle’s VIN number at:
– instrument panels on the driver’s side
– front passenger door frame
– vehicle registration certificate (VTC)
2. Decode the VIN number using an online decoder or contact your dealer.
3. The automatic transmission number is usually located in one of the following sections of the VIN number:
– 10th character (check digit)
– 11th character (model code)
– 12th character (year)
– 13th character (manufacturer code)
Method 2: using a table of body and automatic transmission numbers
1. Find a table of body and automatic transmission numbers for your make and model of car. These charts are usually available online or from your dealer.
2. Compare the body number of your car with that indicated in the table to determine the automatic transmission number.
Method 3: according to the nameplate
1. Inspect the nameplate, which is usually attached under the hood or on the door frame.
2. Find the section on transmission and read the automatic transmission number.
