Signs of a faulty automatic transmission (AT)

1. Slipping or slipping gears
* Gears do not shift smoothly or slip between gears.
* Engine speed increases, but the car does not accelerate.

2. Difficulty shifting gears
* Gear changes occur with jerks, kicks or delays.
* The automatic transmission may not shift to certain gears.

3. Excessive noise or vibration
* Humming, grinding or vibration when the engine is running or the vehicle is moving.
* The noise increases when changing gears.

4. Fluid leaks
* Red or reddish-brown fluid under the vehicle or around the automatic transmission.
* Lack of fluid in the automatic transmission.

5. Check Engine light flashing or on
* The malfunction indicator light on the instrument panel illuminates, indicating a problem with the transmission.

6. Burnt oil smell
* The presence of a smell of burnt oil or smoke may indicate overheating or mechanical damage to the automatic transmission.

7. Unexpected transition to neutral position
* The automatic transmission goes into neutral without driver intervention.
* This may be dangerous, especially while driving.

8. Inability to change gears
* The gear shift lever does not move or shifts with great effort.
* The automatic transmission may get stuck in one gear.

9. Extraneous noise when shifting gear to the “Parking” position
* When shifting the gear into the “Parking” position, a knocking or other unusual noise is heard.
* This may indicate a problem with the parking mechanism.

10. Damage to the automatic transmission housing
*Visual signs of damage such as cracks, dents or holes in the transmission housing.
* May cause fluid leaks or internal damage.
