How to determine automatic or variator transmission:
1. Gear selector
* Automatic: Typically has a traditional «P-R-N-D» pattern on the gear selector, plus other positions (such as «L», «S» or «+/-«).
* CVT: Usually has a simpler design with «P-N-D» or «D» only.
2. Clutch pedal
* Automatic: No clutch pedal.
* CVT: There is a clutch pedal.
3. Sound
* Automatic: Gear shifts smoothly and without sudden jerks, with the exception of some sports models.
* CVT: The engine often remains at high speeds during acceleration, creating a characteristic «whirring» sound.
4. Driving Feel
* Automatic: The driver does not feel the moment of gear shifting and has full control over speed and acceleration.
* CVT: The driver may experience a smooth increase in engine speed, but may feel a lack of direct control over gear changes.
5. Dashboard icon
* Automatic: Usually has an «A» or «D» icon with a picture of gears.
*CVT: Typically has a «CVT» or «V» badge.
Additional features of the variator:
* Tachometer display: Engine speed increases smoothly and linearly when accelerating, rather than in steps like an automatic.
*No manual shift lever: CVTs usually do not have a manual shift mode.
*Smoother Acceleration: CVTs provide smoother acceleration than traditional automatic transmissions.
