Visual inspection:
* Inspect the transmission for oil leaks, leaks or damage.
* Check the level and condition of the transmission fluid. It must be clean and free of foreign impurities.
Checks while driving:
Gear shift:
* When changing gears, make sure that it occurs smoothly and without slipping or jerking.
* Pay attention to any unusual sounds, such as banging or grinding noises, while shifting gears.
Acceleration and braking:
* During acceleration, the gearbox should not ‘knock out’ or slip.
* When braking, make sure that the car stops smoothly and without jolts.
Holding the car:
* Park the vehicle on a slope and keep it stationary using the transmission brake only. If the car rolls, this may indicate a problem with the transmission.
Test drive:
* Take a test drive at different speeds and road conditions.
* Pay attention to any unusual noises, vibrations, or transmission slippage.
Additional tips:
* Use ‘overdrive’ mode only on highways at a constant speed.
* Do not tow heavy loads without first preparing the transmission.
*Change transmission fluid and filters regularly according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
