Materials:
*Clean rag or paper towel
* Key for automatic transmission crankcase drain plug (if required)
Actions:
1. Place the car on a level surface. Wait until the engine and transmission have cooled to avoid getting burned.
2. Open the hood. Find the automatic transmission oil level dipstick. It is usually located near the engine.
3. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean rag or paper towel.
4. Insert the dipstick back into the tube and remove it again.
5. Check the oil level on the dipstick.
Normal oil level:
* On some Volvo S40 models, the automatic transmission oil level is checked using the COLD (Cold) and HOT (Hot) lines on the dipstick. When the engine is cold, the level should be between the COLD lines.
* On other models, the probe may only have one line (WARM). When the engine is hot and running, the level should be on this line.
If the oil level is low:
* Add special Volvo automatic transmission oil through the dipstick hole.
*Use a funnel to avoid spilling.
* Add oil little by little and check the level until it reaches the normal level.
If the oil level is high:
* Drain excess oil through the drain plug in the automatic transmission crankcase.
*You will need a drain plug wrench to do this.
* Be careful not to spill oil.
Adviсe:
* Check the automatic transmission oil level regularly, for example, every 5,000 kilometers.
*Only use oil recommended by Volvo for your model.
* Do not overfill the automatic transmission as this may cause damage.
*If you are in doubt about your automatic transmission oil level, contact a qualified mechanic.
