Preparation:
* Start and warm up the engine to operating temperature.
* Place the car on a flat surface.
Checking the oil level:
1. Place the gear shift lever in the Park (P) position.
2. Open the hood and locate the transmission oil dipstick. It is usually a bright color (such as red or yellow) and is located near the engine.
3. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth.
4. Insert the dipstick back into the tube until it stops.
5. Pull out the dipstick again and check the oil level. It should be between the “Hot” and “Cold” marks on the dipstick.
Adding oil (if necessary):
If the oil level is low, follow these steps:
1. Buy the right transmission oil. Check your vehicle’s owner’s manual for the recommended oil type.
2. Open the drain plug on the transmission pan. It is usually located at the bottom of the tray.
3. Place a container under the pan to collect used oil.
4. Drain the used oil.
5. Close the drain plug.
6. Open the filler plug on the gearbox. It is usually located on the side or top of the transmission.
7. Using a funnel, add new oil.
8. Check the oil level using the dipstick.
9. If necessary, add oil until the level reaches the “Hot” mark on the dipstick.
10. Close the filler plug.
Warnings:
* Do not overfill the gearbox with oil.
* Use only oil recommended by the manufacturer.
*If you are not sure how to check the transmission oil level, ask a mechanic for help.
