To check the valve body of an automatic transmission (automatic transmission) you will need:
* Transmission fluid
* Funnel
* Fluid Pressure Test Kit
* Automatic transmission service manual for your car
Check procedure:
1. Removing the valve body
* Raise the car on a lift or use jacks and stands.
* Drain some of the transmission fluid from the automatic transmission crankcase.
* Disconnect the electrical connectors from the valve body.
* Remove the bolts securing the valve body to the automatic transmission housing.
* Carefully remove the hydraulic unit.
2. Visual inspection
* Inspect the valve body for signs of wear such as scratches, dents or rust.
* Check passages and valves for blockages or damage.
3. Checking fluid pressure
* Install a pressure test kit on the valve body test ports.
* Raise the car on a lift (if it is not already removed).
* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Move the gear shift lever to Park (P) position.
* Read the fluid pressure readings for each port as listed in the automatic transmission service manual.
* Compare the readings with those in the manual to determine if the fluid pressure is within the required range.
4. Solenoid test
* Disconnect the electrical connectors of the valve body solenoids.
*Connect a voltmeter or test light to the terminals of each solenoid.
* Start the engine and shift the gear lever to different positions.
* Check if voltage is supplied to the solenoids according to the diagrams provided in the service manual.
5. Reassembly
* If no problems are found, clean and reassemble the valve body in reverse order.
* Replace the valve body gasket if necessary.
* Install the valve body and tighten the mounting bolts to the torque specified in the manual.
* Connect the electrical connectors to the valve body.
* Fill with new transmission fluid to the level indicated on the dipstick.
Note: If you find any problems with the valve body, it is recommended that you have it repaired or replaced by a qualified mechanic.
