Checking the automatic transmission pressure solenoid

Materials:

* Multimeter
* Automatic transmission wiring diagram

Instructions:

1. Find the location of the pressure solenoid:

*Refer to the automatic transmission wiring diagram to determine the location of the pressure solenoid. It is usually located in the automatic transmission housing.

2. Disconnect the electrical connector:

* Locate the electrical connector connected to the pressure solenoid.
* Disconnect the connector by gently pulling it.

3. Set the multimeter to resistance measurement mode:

* Set the multimeter to resistance (ohms) mode.

4. Check the solenoid resistance:

*Connect the red lead of the multimeter to the positive (+) terminal of the pressure solenoid connector.
*Connect the black lead of the multimeter to the negative (-) terminal of the pressure solenoid connector.
* Record the resistance value displayed on the multimeter.

5. Compare the resistance value with the specifications:

* Compare the resistance value obtained with the manufacturer’s specifications for the automatic transmission pressure solenoid.
*If the resistance value is outside specifications, the solenoid is faulty and must be replaced.

6. Check the electrical connector:

*If the solenoid resistance is within specifications, check the electrical connector for damage or loose connections.
* If necessary, clean the connector contacts with alcohol or contact cleaner.

7. Put everything back together:

* Connect the electrical connector to the pressure solenoid.
* Collect all parts and return the car to working condition.

Adviсe:

* Before performing the test, make sure that the automatic transmission is in the “P” (park) position and the engine is turned off.
*If you are unsure of the results, contact a qualified mechanic for further diagnosis.
* Pressure solenoids are voltage-sensing electromagnetic devices. Make sure the battery voltage is normal.
