Checking Subaru automatic transmission solenoids

1. Removing solenoids

* Loosen the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan.
* Remove the automatic transmission pan and drain the transmission fluid.
* Unscrew the bolts securing the solenoid control unit.
* Remove the solenoid control unit along with the solenoids.

2. Electrical check

* Set the multimeter to resistance (ohms) mode.
* Connect one multimeter probe to the positive terminal of the battery and the other probe to the solenoid connector.
* The solenoid typically has a resistance of 8 to 12 ohms. Deviation from this value indicates a malfunction.

3. Hydraulic check

*Pour a small amount of transmission fluid into a mesh or cardboard.
*Connect the solenoid to a 12V power source (such as a battery).
* Immerse the solenoid in liquid.
*A working solenoid will allow fluid to pass through the hole in the core.

4. Assembly

* Replace faulty solenoids.
* Install the solenoid control unit using new bolts.
* Install the automatic transmission pan using new bolts and gaskets.
* Fill the automatic transmission with transmission fluid.

Adviсe:

*Always disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before performing any work on the transmission.
*Use proper tools and follow safety precautions.
*If you are unsure of your abilities, consult a professional mechanic.
