Checking Mercedes-Benz automatic transmission valves
Required tools and materials:
*Mercedes-Benz diagnostic scanner
* Screwdriver set
* Dipstick (if necessary)
* Solvent
* Clean rags
Verification procedure:
1. Connect the diagnostic scanner:
* Connect the diagnostic scanner to the Mercedes-Benz diagnostic port.
*Launch the scanner software.
2. Run transmission diagnostics:
* In the scanner software, select the “Transmission” section.
* Select “Diagnostics”.
3. Check fault codes:
* The scanner will automatically check for transmission related fault codes.
* Review trouble codes and determine if they indicate problems with the automatic transmission valves.
4. Check hydraulic pressure:
*Using a scanner, view the hydraulic pressure data.
* Compare the actual pressure with the specified parameters for your specific transmission.
*Low or excessively high pressure may indicate valve problems.
5. Check the operation of the solenoids:
* The scanner can check the operation of automatic transmission solenoids.
* Activate the solenoids manually using a scan tool and observe their response.
* Any failure to activate may indicate faulty solenoids or problems with their control.
6. Check for mechanical problems:
* If scanner diagnostics do not reveal any problems, a mechanical check may be required.
* Remove the automatic transmission pan and inspect the valves for mechanical damage.
* Also check for stuck or worn parts.
7. Clean the valves (if necessary):
* If dirt or deposits are found on the valves, they must be cleaned.
* Use solvent and clean rags to clean the valves.
* Be careful not to damage the valves.
8. Reinstall the automatic transmission pan:
* After checking and cleaning, reinstall the automatic transmission pan.
*Tighten pan bolts to manufacturer’s specifications.
9. Reset automatic transmission adaptations:
* Using a diagnostic scanner, reset the automatic transmission adaptations.
* This will allow the transmission to relearn how to handle new or rebuilt components.
10. Take a test drive:
*After completing the inspection and repair, take it for a test drive to check the operation of the transmission.
* Pay attention to any unusual sounds, vibrations or malfunctions.
Note:
* Checking and repairing Mercedes-Benz automatic transmission valves is a complex task that requires special knowledge and equipment.
* It is recommended that you take it to a qualified Mercedes-Benz mechanic for proper diagnosis and repair.
