Checking the level and condition of the automatic transmission oil on a Mercedes-Benz ML 320:
Required tools and materials:
* Wrench set
*Clean cloth
* Dipstick for checking the automatic transmission oil level
Instructions:
1. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. This will warm up the oil and allow it to drain into the pan.
2. Turn off the engine and wait 10-15 minutes. This will give the oil time to drain back into the pan.
3. Place the car on a level surface. Slope may affect the accuracy of the oil level reading.
4. Open the hood and find the dipstick to check the automatic transmission oil level. It is usually located near the engine and is labeled “ATF” or “Transmission Fluid”.
5. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a clean cloth, and reinsert it into the dipstick hole.
6. Pull the dipstick out again and inspect it. It will have two levels of markings: “Hot” and “Cold”. If the oil level is between these marks, it is sufficient.
7. If the oil level is below the minimum level, add some transmission fluid. Use the same fluid specified in your vehicle’s owner’s manual. Don’t overfill!
8. Check the oil for dirt or foreign particles. If you see any signs of contamination, an oil change may be necessary.
Additional tips:
*Be sure to only use the transmission fluid recommended in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
* Check the automatic transmission oil level regularly in accordance with your vehicle’s maintenance schedule.
*If you have any problems or questions regarding checking the automatic transmission oil level, contact a qualified mechanic.
