Checking the automatic transmission on a Mitsubishi Lancer 9

1. Visual inspection

* Check the level and condition of the transmission fluid. The liquid should be red or pink and not have a burning smell.
* Inspect the transmission pan for leaks and damage.

2. Checking the fluid level

* Remove the fluid level dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth.
* Insert the dipstick back and remove it completely.
* Check the fluid level on the dipstick. It should be between the “HOT” and “COLD” marks.

3. Functionality check

* Start the engine and let it warm up.
* Move the gear shift lever to all positions and make sure that gear shifts smoothly without slipping or jerking.
*Take a test drive and pay attention to the following:
* Is there any vibration, noise or jerking when changing gears.
* Gear shifts smoothly and on time.
* The gearbox does not overheat and does not slip.

4. Electronic diagnostics

If you suspect transmission problems, connect an OBD-II diagnostic scanner. It can identify trouble codes that indicate specific transmission problems.

Additional tips:

*Check and change transmission fluid regularly according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
* Avoid harsh driving and towing heavy loads.
*If you notice any unusual symptoms, contact a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair.
