Engine braking with an automatic transmission differs from engine braking with a manual transmission:

1. Select the correct mode:

* Mode D (Drive): Provides maximum engine braking efficiency in high gears.
* S (Sport) or L (Low) mode: Provides stronger engine braking in lower gears.
*Manual Mode (+/-): Allows you to manually downshift to enhance engine braking.

2. Reduce speed:

* Release the accelerator pedal so that the car begins to slow down by inertia.

3. Select the appropriate gear:

* D Mode: When slowing down quickly, switch to S or L mode to increase engine braking.
*Manual Mode: Manually downshift until you feel the engine slow down enough.

4. Avoid heavy braking:

* Engine braking should not completely stop the vehicle. Avoid pressing the brake pedal suddenly if you do not want to lock the wheels.

5. Use the brake pedal:

*If more braking is required, press the brake pedal gently. This will help prevent wheels from locking and skidding.

Notes:

*Engine braking may be less effective when driving at low speeds or going downhill.
* Avoid prolonged engine braking at high engine speeds as this may cause the engine to overheat.
*Automatic transmissions with torque converter lock-up may reduce engine braking performance at high speeds.
