Required tools:

* Wrench set
* Diagnostic scanner (optional)

Instructions:

1. Determine the problem. Symptoms of a faulty automatic transmission selector sensor may include:

* Difficulty shifting gears
* Errors on the dashboard related to gear selection
* Discrepancy between selector position and actual gear selected

2. Locate the sensor. The automatic transmission selector sensor is usually located on or near the gearbox. Locate the connector block or wiring harness attached to the transmission and follow it.

3. Disconnect the sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor. Next, loosen the nuts or bolts holding the sensor to the transmission.

4. Remove the sensor. Carefully remove the sensor from the transmission.

5. Clean the contacts. Clean the electrical contacts on the connector and sensor with alcohol or contact cleaner.

6. Check the sensor. Using a diagnostic scan tool, you can check the sensor for proper operation. If a diagnostic scanner is not available, you can:

* Check the resistance of the sensor using a multimeter. The resistance should change depending on the position of the selector.
* Make sure that the sensor produces power when the ignition is turned on.

7. Reinstall the sensor. Install the sensor back to its position on the transmission. Tighten the mounting nuts or bolts.

8. Connect the sensor. Connect the electrical connector to the sensor.

9. Clear the fault code memory. If you used a diagnostic scanner, you will need to clear the fault code memory to clear any errors related to the selector shift sensor.

10. Check operation. Start the engine and change gears to check that the sensor is working correctly.

Notes:

* Be careful when handling the transmission as it may contain hot fluids.
*If you are unsure of your skills, it is best to contact a certified mechanic.
*Consult your specific vehicle’s service manual for specific instructions and specifications.
