Tools:
* Set of keys
* Multimeter
Procedure:
1. Disconnect the battery. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental electrical discharge.
2. Find the automatic transmission position sensor. It is usually located on the automatic transmission housing next to the gearshift cable.
3. Disconnect the sensor connector. Disconnect the electrical connector from the automatic transmission position sensor.
4. Measure the sensor resistance. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance between the sensor contacts. The resistance should change as you move the gear lever.
5. Adjust the sensor. Loosen the sensor mounting bolts and carefully rotate the sensor until the resistance is within the specified specification. These values vary by vehicle make and model, so refer to your service manual.
6. Tighten the sensor bolts. After adjusting the sensor, tighten the mounting bolts.
7. Connect the sensor connector. Connect the electrical connector to the automatic transmission position sensor.
8. Connect the battery. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
9. Check the sensor operation. Start the car and shift the gear lever to different positions. Check with a trouble code scanner to see if the sensor is working properly.
Adviсe:
* While adjusting the sensor, watch the resistance change on the multimeter.
*Repeat steps 5-7 until resistance is within specification.
*If you are unsure about the adjustment process, it is recommended that you consult a qualified mechanic.
