Tools:
* 10 mm hex key
* Ruler or tape measure
Steps:
1. Place the car in park. Make sure the gear shift lever is in the «P» position.
2. Open the hood. Locate the transmission cable that connects the shift lever to the transmission.
3. Loosen the locknut. Using a 10mm hex wrench, loosen the locknut that is located next to the adjustment bolt at the end of the cable.
4. Adjust the cable tension. Turn the adjusting bolt using a hex wrench until the cable tension is correct.
Correct cable tension:
* The gear shift lever should move easily to all positions.
* When shifting to position «D» there should be no feeling of sagging or jerking.
5. Tighten the locknut. Tighten the locknut using a hex wrench.
6. Check the cable tension. Shift the gearshift lever through all positions to ensure that the cable tension is correct.
7. Close the hood.
Additional tips:
* If the automatic transmission cable is too tight, problems with gear shifting may occur.
*If the automatic transmission cable is not tensioned enough, it may cause gear slipping or shifting problems.
* It is recommended to periodically check and, if necessary, adjust the tension of the automatic transmission cable.
