Instructions for adjusting the automatic transmission selector cable on a Nissan:

Tools:

* Open-end wrench 12 mm
* 5 mm hex key

Spare parts:

* New cable (if necessary)

Steps:

1. Set the shift lever to neutral position. Turn off the ignition and move the lever to the neutral position.

2. Find the adjusting nut. The adjusting nut is located at the end of the selector cable, which connects to the gearbox.

3. Loosen the adjusting nut. Use a 12mm open-end wrench to loosen the adjusting nut a few turns.

4. Move the shift lever to park mode. Hold the lever release button, if equipped, and move the lever into park.

5. Tighten the adjusting nut. Use an open-end wrench to tighten the adjusting nut until you feel slight tension on the cable.

6. Move the shift lever through all gears. Move the lever through all gears and check if it shifts smoothly. If necessary, repeat steps 3-5 for further adjustments.

7. Check the lever travel. The lever stroke should be approximately 1-1.5 cm in all directions. If the stroke is less or more, adjust the adjusting nut accordingly.

8. Use a sliding adjuster. If there is a sliding adjuster at the end of the cable, slide it until it lines up with the corresponding mark on the shift lever.

9. Check the adjustment. Start the engine and shift into all gears. Make sure the gears shift smoothly and that the shift lever is not sticking.

Notes:

* If adjustment does not help, the cable may need to be replaced.
*If in doubt, seek assistance from a qualified mechanic.
* After adjusting the cable, it is recommended to check the fluid level in the transmission and top up if necessary.
