Adjusting the Honda Automatic Transmission
Materials:
* Adjustable wrench
* Phillips screwdriver
* Sealant for gaskets
Warning:
* Always adjust the transmission with the engine not running and the parking brake applied.
* Make sure the transmission is in Park (P) position.
Instructions:
1. Determine your transmission model:
*Honda automatic transmission is identified by letters and numbers. This information is usually found on a plate attached to the transmission.
2. Raise the car:
* Raise the car using a jack and place it on stands. Make sure the vehicle is securely secured.
3. Find the adjusting bolt:
*The location of the adjustment bolt depends on your transmission model. It is usually located on the transmission housing next to the transmission pipe.
4. Loosen the locknut:
*Using an adjustable wrench, loosen the locknut that holds the adjustment bolt.
5. Adjust the bolt:
*Using a Phillips screwdriver, turn the adjusting bolt in the desired direction. The number of revolutions will depend on your transmission model.
*Some Honda models will have a scale on the adjustment bolt that will indicate the correct position.
6. Tighten the locknut:
*After adjusting the bolt, tighten the lock nut to lock it in place.
7. Add gasket sealant:
* Apply a small amount of gasket sealant to the threads of the adjuster bolt to prevent leaks.
8. Lower the car:
* Lower the vehicle from the stands.
9. Check the setting:
* Start the engine and check the automatic transmission shifting. Make sure the gears shift smoothly and without slipping.
