Automatic transmission adaptation after oil change
Adaptation of the automatic transmission after an oil change is necessary so that the electronic transmission control unit (ECU) correctly adjusts the operating parameters of the automatic transmission for the new oil.
Automatic transmission adaptation procedure
1. Overheat the transmission oil
1. Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
2. Drive the car for 30-45 minutes in urban cycle mode with moderate acceleration and braking.
2. Set the automatic transmission selector to position P
1. Stop the car and place the automatic transmission selector in position P (Parking).
3. Turn on the ignition
1. Turn off the engine and turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
4. Alternately shift gears
1. Wait 30 seconds.
2. Alternately switch the automatic transmission selector to each position (P, R, N, D, 2, 1), holding each position for several seconds.
3. Return the automatic transmission selector to position P.
5. Start riding
1. Start the engine.
2. Drive the car for 10-15 minutes in urban cycle mode with moderate acceleration and braking.
6. Complete the procedure
1. Stop the car and leave the engine idling for 5-10 minutes.
2. Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes.
3. Restart the engine and let it idle for 1-2 minutes.
Note:
* Some vehicles may require a special diagnostic scanner to perform automatic transmission adaptation. Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual or a mechanic.
* It may take several days or even weeks of operating the vehicle in different conditions to fully adapt the automatic transmission.
