Required tools and materials:
* OBD-II diagnostic scanner
* Automatic transmission fluid for Toyota WS
* Funnel for transmission fluid
* Automatic transmission crankcase gasket
* Automatic transmission filter
* Magnetic automatic transmission tray (optional)
Automatic transmission adaptation procedure:
1. Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
2. Connect the diagnostic scanner to the vehicle’s OBD-II port.
3. Place the transmission in Park mode.
4. Reset the automatic transmission memory using a diagnostic scanner. This will remove the stored adaptive values.
5. Stop the engine and let it cool for 10-15 minutes.
6. Drain the old automatic transmission fluid. Unscrew the automatic transmission crankcase drain plug and drain the fluid into a prepared container.
7. Replace the automatic transmission filter. Remove the automatic transmission housing and replace the filter with a new one. Don’t forget to install a new crankcase gasket.
8. If installed, install the automatic transmission magnetic pan.
9. Refill with new automatic transmission fluid. Fill Toyota WS fluid through the dipstick hole. Make sure the fluid level is within the specified range.
10. Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
11. Perform the automatic transmission adaptation procedure using a diagnostic scanner. Follow the instructions on the scanner screen. Typically the procedure involves a series of gear changes and holds at different engine speeds.
12. Check the automatic transmission fluid level. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, and reinsert it into the dipstick tube. Make sure the fluid level is within the specified range.
13. Disconnect the scan tool and clear the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) recorded after the reset.
Note:
* It may take several driving cycles to complete the adaptation process.
* If you do not have a diagnostic scanner, you can contact an authorized Toyota service center to perform automatic transmission adaptation.
*Changing your automatic transmission fluid and filter regularly can help extend the life of your transmission.
