Adjusting the Honda CR-V RD1 gearshift cable
Tools and materials:
* Wrench set
* Flat head screwdriver
* Drill (optional)
* 3mm drill (optional)
Adjustment procedure:
1. Loosen the cable locknut. The locknut is located at the end of the cable that is attached to the transmission control lever.
2. Adjust the length of the cable by rotating the adjusting sleeve. The adjusting sleeve is located between the locknut and the transmission control lever. Rotate the clutch clockwise to shorten the cable length and counterclockwise to increase the cable length.
3. Pull the cable. The cable should be tight enough to hold the transmission control lever in the desired position, but not so tight that it is too tight.
4. Tighten the locknut. While holding the adjusting sleeve in place, tighten the locknut.
5. Thread the cable through the plastic clip on the transmission housing. This will help lock the cable in place.
6. Check the adjustment. Shift through all gears and make sure they shift smoothly and without hesitation.
Additional tip:
*If you have difficulty rotating the adjusting sleeve, you can use a drill with a 3mm drill bit to make a small hole in the sleeve. This will create a fulcrum that will help you rotate the clutch.
* Carry out cable adjustments with a cold engine. When the engine heats up, the cable expands, which can lead to incorrect adjustment.
