Instructions for changing the oil in a Honda CR-V automatic transmission:
1. Preparation:
* Place the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes to warm up the transmission fluid.
* Stop the engine and allow the fluid to drain for 15-20 minutes.
2. Draining old fluid:
*Locate the drain plug at the bottom of the transmission oil pan.
* Place a drain pan under the drain plug.
* Carefully unscrew the drain plug using the appropriate wrench. Be prepared for liquid leakage.
* Completely drain all liquid into the pan.
* Install a new drain plug with a new O-ring. Tighten the plug to the specified torque.
3. Removing the oil pan:
* Loosen the bolts securing the oil pan to the transmission housing.
* Carefully remove the oil pan, being careful not to damage the gasket.
* Clean the oil pan and transmission housing with rags or gloves.
4. Filter replacement (optional):
*If you decide to replace the filter, remove the bolts holding it in place.
*Remove the old filter and install a new one. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
5. Installing the oil pan gasket:
* Apply a small amount of sealant to the new oil pan gasket.
* Install the gasket on the oil pan.
* Attach the oil pan to the transmission housing and tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
6. Filling with new fluid:
*Locate the filler plug on the side of the transmission.
* Insert a funnel into the filler plug.
* Pour new transmission fluid into the funnel.
* Fill the fluid until it begins to flow out of the level plug.
7. Checking the fluid level:
* Reinstall the filler plug.
* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
* Shift the gear selector to all positions and return to park position (P).
* Remove the fluid level dipstick and wipe it clean.
* Insert the dipstick back into the transmission and remove it again.
* Check the fluid level on the dipstick. It should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks. Add liquid if necessary.
8. Resetting the fluid life counter:
* Get into the car and start the engine.
* Press and hold the odometer reset button on the instrument panel for 10 seconds.
*Release the button and the message “OIL LIFE 100%” should appear on the display.
