Checking the oil level in the Honda Pilot automatic transmission

Required tools:

*Clean rag or paper towel
* Ratchet wrench
* Set of sockets or wrenches
* Funnel (optional)

Precautions:

* Check the oil level when the engine and gearbox are warm.
* The vehicle must be parked on a level surface.
* There should be no leaks when checking the oil level.

Steps:

1. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes to warm up the transmission oil.
2. Stop the engine.
3. Find the automatic transmission oil level dipstick in the engine compartment. It usually has a yellow or red handle with “ATF” written on it.
4. Pull the dipstick out, wipe it with a clean rag or paper towel, and reinsert it.
5. Remove the dipstick again and check the oil level. There will be two marks on the dipstick: “HOT” (hot) and “COLD” (cold).
6. If the oil level is between the “HOT” and “COLD” marks, then it is normal.
7. If the oil level is below the “COLD” mark, you need to add oil.
8. To add oil, use a funnel and carefully pour Honda approved transmission oil into the dipstick hole.
9. Check the oil level as described in step 5.
10. Add oil in small portions until the level reaches the “HOT” mark.
11. Check under the car for leaks.
12. Reinstall the automatic transmission oil dipstick.

Additional tips:

* It is recommended to check the automatic transmission oil level every 30,000 km or in accordance with the maintenance schedule.
* Use only Honda approved gear oil.
* If you notice a burning smell or metal particles when checking the oil level, contact a qualified mechanic.
