Automatic transmission heat exchanger Citroen C4

Purpose:

* Maintain optimal transmission fluid temperature
* Cool the liquid by transferring heat to the environment
*Prevent transmission overheating

Location:

The heat exchanger is usually located at the top of the transmission, where it may be in contact with air or engine coolant.

Device:

The heat exchanger is a water-oil heat exchanger consisting of:

* Inlet and outlet pipes: To supply hot transmission fluid and return cooled fluid
* Fins: To increase the surface area for heat exchange with the environment or engine coolant
*Cores: Tubular or plate design to facilitate heat transfer between fluids

Working principle:

* Hot transmission fluid passes through the inlet pipe and enters the heat exchanger core.
* The core transfers heat from the transmission fluid to the fins, which reject heat to the environment or engine coolant.
* The cooled fluid returns through the outlet pipe to the gearbox.

Service:

* The heat exchanger does not require regular maintenance, but periodic inspections may reveal leaks or blockages that may affect its efficiency.
* When replacing transmission fluid, it is also recommended to check the condition of the heat exchanger.

Typical problems:

*Leaks: Damaged hoses or seals can cause transmission fluid to leak.
* Clogs: The accumulation of dirt or debris in the heat exchanger can reduce its cooling efficiency.
*Overheating: A faulty heat exchanger can cause the transmission to overheat, which can cause damage and premature wear.
