Heat exchanger automatic transmission Mitsubishi Outlander

The automatic transmission heat exchanger cools the transmission fluid, removing heat from the transmission.

Location:

The heat exchanger is located at the bottom of the radiator and is attached to it with bolts.

Design:

* Consists of two circuits: the transmission fluid circuit and the coolant circuit.
* The circuits are separated by thin aluminum tubes through which the coolant passes.
* Transmission fluid circulates inside the tubes.

Function:

* Cools transmission fluid by removing heat from the transmission.
* Maintains optimal operating temperature of the automatic transmission, preventing overheating.

Replacement:

Replacing the automatic transmission heat exchanger may be necessary in the following cases:

*Transmission fluid leaks
* Automatic transmission overheating
* Clogging contours

Symptoms of a faulty heat exchanger:

*Brown or black transmission fluid
* Burnt oil smell
* Automatic transmission overheating
* Reduced automatic transmission performance

Service:

* Periodically check the level and condition of the transmission fluid.
* Regularly flush the cooling system, including the radiator and automatic transmission heat exchanger.
* Replace transmission fluid and filter according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
