P (Park): Parking. The transmission is locked and the vehicle cannot move.

R (Reverse): Reverse. The car is moving backwards.

N (Neutral): Neutral. The transmission is not engaged and the vehicle can roll freely.

D (Drive): Forward movement. The vehicle moves forward and the gear changes automatically according to the load and speed.

L (Low): Low gear. Used for driving at low speeds, for example when climbing steep slopes.

S (Sport): Sports mode. The car shifts into higher gears at higher revs, providing a sportier ride.

+ (Plus): Manual upshift. Used for overtaking or other situations requiring more power.

– (Minus): Manual downshift. Used for descending hills or towing.

M (Manual): Manual mode. The driver changes gears manually using a steering wheel switch or gear lever.

Tiptronic or Steptronic: Trademarks used by some manufacturers to designate automatic transmissions with a manual shift mode.
