Partial oil change in automatic transmission

Materials:

*Automatic transmission oil (check your owner’s manual for recommended type and volume)
* Oil filter (optional)
* Oil pan gasket (optional)
* Funnel
* Wrench
* Pallet

Steps:

1. Prepare the car

* Place the car on a level surface.
*Place the gear shift lever in Park (P) position.
* Stop the engine and let it cool.

2. Identify the drain plug

* Locate the drain plug on the transmission oil pan.

3. Drain the oil

* Place a drain pan under the drain plug.
* Carefully unscrew the drain plug with a wrench.
* Drain the oil until it stops leaking.
* Screw the drain plug back in using a new seal if necessary.

4. Replace oil filter (optional)

*If your vehicle has a replacement oil filter, locate it and replace it with a new one.

5. Replace the oil pan gasket (optional)

*If your oil pan gasket looks damaged or worn, replace it with a new one.

6. Fill with new oil

* Using a funnel, pour new oil into the transmission dipstick hole.
* Fill the required amount of oil according to the instructions in the owner’s manual.

7. Check oil level

* Remove the transmission dipstick and wipe it clean.
* Insert the dipstick back and remove it again.
* Check the oil level on the dipstick. It should be between the “min” and “max” marks.

8. Start the engine

* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
* Shift through all gears to distribute the new oil.

9. Check the oil level again

*Repeat step 7 to check the oil level. Add oil if necessary.

Notes:

*A partial oil change removes only part of the old oil. For a more complete replacement, the transmission may need to be flushed.
*Always read your owner’s manual for instructions specific to your specific vehicle.
*If you are unsure of any steps, consult a qualified mechanic for assistance.
