Replacing the automatic transmission drive oil seal on a Ford Mondeo 4
Tools and materials:
* Set of keys
* 6 mm hex key
* Crowbar or screwdriver
* Automatic transmission drive oil seal
* Sealant
* Rags
* Gloves
Operating procedure:
1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the wheel from the side where you will be replacing it.
3. Remove the upper ball joint bolt using a hex wrench.
4. Place a jack under the suspension arm and lift it slightly.
5. Grasp the control arm with both hands and pull it toward you to disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
6. Disconnect the drive shaft from the hub by inserting a pry bar between the shaft and the hub and tapping it with a hammer.
7. Remove the bolts securing the drive to the gearbox.
8. Carefully pull the drive shaft out of the transmission.
9. Using a flathead screwdriver, carefully pry up the old oil seal and pull it out.
10. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the new seal surface.
11. Insert the new oil seal into its place.
12. Reinstall the drive shaft into the transmission.
13. Tighten the bolts securing the drive to the gearbox.
14. Insert the drive shaft into the hub.
15. Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
16. Tighten the upper ball joint bolt.
17. Install the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts.
18. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
Adviсe:
* When removing the drive shaft from the transmission, be careful not to damage the oil seal or the inside of the transmission.
