Location of the right axle drive oil seal on the Ford Focus 3 automatic transmission

The right axle drive oil seal is located at the junction of the gearbox and the right axle shaft. It is located on the right side of the car, under the hood.

Oil seal device

The oil seal consists of the following components:

* Outer casing made of rubber or polyurethane
* Internal metal frame
* Working edge that contacts the surface of the axle shaft

Oil seal function

The axle drive seal serves to prevent transmission fluid from leaking from the gearbox. It ensures the tightness of the connection between the axle shaft and the gearbox housing.

Replacing the oil seal

Replacing the axle drive oil seal may be necessary if it is worn out, damaged, or if transmission fluid leaks. To replace the oil seal, perform the following steps:

1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Raise the car on a lift.
3. Remove the right front wheel.
4. Disconnect the steering rod from the steering knuckle.
5. Disconnect the front wheel drives.
6. Unscrew the bolt securing the shock absorber strut and disconnect the strut from the steering knuckle.
7. Remove the steering knuckle.
8. Disconnect the right axle drive from the differential.
9. Remove the old oil seal.
10. Install a new oil seal.
11. Reassemble everything in reverse order.
