Replacing the suspension shaft bearing on a Ford Focus II with automatic transmission
Tools and materials:
* Wrench set
* Hex key
* Jack
* Supports
* New suspension shaft bearing
* Brake cleaner
* Universal lubricant
Procedure:
1. Preparation:
* Place the vehicle on a level surface and secure it with the parking brake.
* Disconnect the battery.
2. Lifting the car:
* Raise the front of the car using a jack.
* Support the vehicle for safety.
3. Removing the suspension shaft:
* Disconnect the anti-roll bar from the suspension shaft.
* Remove the bolts securing the suspension shaft to the driveshaft and gearbox.
* Gently slide the suspension shaft back.
4. Bearing removal:
*Use a hex wrench to remove the bearing mounting bolts.
* Remove the bearing bracket and the bearing itself.
* Clean the bearing seats on the shaft and bracket using brake cleaner.
5. Installing a new bearing:
* Apply multi-purpose grease to the bearing seat on the shaft.
* Install the new bearing on the shaft and secure it with the bracket using bolts.
* Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
6. Installation of suspension shaft:
* Insert the suspension shaft into place and secure it with bolts.
* Reconnect the anti-roll bar.
7. Lowering the car:
* Slowly lower the vehicle from the jack.
* Remove the supports.
8. Battery connection:
* Connect the battery.
* Check the oil level in the gearbox and add it if necessary.
Adviсe:
* To prevent corrosion, it is recommended to replace the bearing mounting bolts with new ones.
*If possible, use an impact wrench to loosen and tighten bolts more easily.
* When tightening bolts, distribute the force evenly.
* Check the operation of the suspension shaft after replacing the bearing by driving a short distance.
