Tools and materials:
* Torque wrench
* 5 mm hexagon
* Marker
* Transmission fluid
Adjustment steps:
1. Place the car in park. Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
2. Locate the adjusting bolt. The bolt is located on the automatic transmission housing near the gear selector lever.
3. Make a mark. Mark the original position of the bolt with a marker.
4. Loosen the locknut. Use a 5mm hex socket to loosen the locknut on the adjusting bolt.
5. Tighten the adjusting bolt. Tighten the bolt 1/2 turn.
6. Loosen and tighten the bolt to check. Loosen the bolt 1 full turn and then tighten it again 1/2 turn.
7. Make sure the band is taut. Check to see if the tape has some tension by sliding it with your finger. It should move approximately 1 mm.
8. Tighten the locknut. Tighten the locknut to secure the adjusting bolt.
9. Recheck the adjustment. Make sure the tape still has the correct tension by sliding it again.
10. Start the engine and check the gear shift. Drive the car and change gears to make sure everything is working properly.
11. If necessary, add transmission fluid. Check the fluid level and add it if necessary.
Note:
*There may be some differences in the location of the adjustment bolt between Focus 2 models. Consult your specific vehicle’s service manual.
* Do not overtighten the adjusting bolt as this may damage the transmission.
*If you are unsure about adjusting the belt yourself, consult a qualified mechanic.
