Materials required to change automatic transmission oil in Ford Explorer TWJ 2013:

* New automatic transmission oil Mercon LV (about 6 liters)
* New automatic transmission filter (if required)
* Automatic transmission pan gasket (if required)
* 10mm wrench or socket
* 13mm wrench or socket
* 15mm wrench or socket
* Pliers
* Funnel
* Tray for collecting used oil

Step-by-step instructions for changing automatic transmission oil in a Ford Explorer TWJ 2013:

1. Prepare the vehicle: Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool for a few minutes until the automatic transmission oil becomes warm.

2. Drain the used oil: Place a pan to collect the used oil under the automatic transmission pan. Using a 13 mm wrench or socket, unscrew the drain plug on the automatic transmission pan. Allow the used oil to drain into the pan.

3. Remove the transmission pan: Once most of the waste oil has cleared, use a wrench or 10mm socket to remove the screws holding the transmission pan. Carefully remove the pan from the transmission.

4. Remove the old automatic transmission filter (if necessary): If you decide to replace the automatic transmission oil filter, locate and remove the old filter from the automatic transmission pan.

5. Install a new automatic transmission filter (if necessary): Lubricate the O-ring of the new automatic transmission filter with new oil and install it on the automatic transmission pan.

6. Install a new automatic transmission pan gasket (if necessary): Remove the old gasket from the automatic transmission pan and install a new one.

7. Install the automatic transmission pan: Carefully place the automatic transmission pan in place and tighten the screws using a 10 mm wrench or socket. Tighten the screws to the specified torque (refer to your vehicle’s service manual).

8. Screw in the drain plug: Insert a new drain plug into the automatic transmission pan and tighten it using a 13 mm wrench or socket. Tighten the plug to the required torque.

9. Fill with new automatic transmission oil: Using a funnel, pour about 4 liters of new Mercon LV oil into the automatic transmission.

10. Check the automatic transmission oil level: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Shift the gear selector through different positions and then return it to Park (P).

11. Remove the transmission dipstick: Remove the automatic transmission oil dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth.

12. Check the automatic transmission oil level: Insert the dipstick back into the automatic transmission and pull it out again. The oil level should be between the “hot” and “cold” marks on the dipstick.

13. Add automatic transmission oil (if necessary): If the oil level is below the “cold” mark, add oil little by little until the level reaches the “hot” mark.

14. Install the automatic transmission oil dipstick: Insert the dipstick back into the automatic transmission.

15. Reset the automatic transmission oil change counter (if necessary): Some 2013 Explorer TWJ models have an automatic transmission oil change counter that must be reset after an oil change. Consult your vehicle’s service manual for instructions on how to do this.

Notes:

* Before changing your automatic transmission oil, check your vehicle’s service manual to ensure you are using the correct type and volume of oil.
* It is strongly recommended to use a funnel to drain and fill oil.
*If you are unsure of your skills or are not comfortable performing this task yourself, consult a qualified mechanic.
* Regular automatic transmission oil changes help extend the life of the transmission and prevent costly repairs.
