Car diagnostics – electrical

General procedures:

*Inspection: Visually inspect electrical wiring, components, and connectors for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
* Scan Trouble Codes: Use a diagnostic scanner to read trouble codes stored in the engine control unit (ECU) and other modules.
* Voltage and Current Testing: Tests voltage and current in circuits and components to determine compliance with specifications.
* Voltage Drop Testing: Tests voltage drop across wires, connectors, and ground points to detect increased resistance.
* Grounding testing: Checking the integrity of grounding conductors and connection points.

Wiring:

* Continuity Test: Testing the circuit to ensure current flows without any breaks.
* Insulation Testing: Testing the insulation of wires and components to prevent current leakage.
* Connector Integrity Testing: Inspects and tests connectors to ensure reliable connections and no corrosion.

Battery and starting system:

* Battery Test: Test the battery capacity, starting current and voltage.
* Charging system testing: Checking the generator output voltage and charging current.
* Starter testing: Checking current consumption and starter rotation speed.

Lighting system:

* Testing of headlights and flashlights: Checking the functionality of low and high beam headlights, turn signals, brake lights and reverse lights.
* Relay and Fuse Testing: Test the functionality of the relays and fuses associated with the lighting system.
* Switch testing: Testing the functionality of switches that control the lighting system.

Additional systems:

* Power window system: Testing motors, switches and wiring.
* Air conditioning system: Testing of compressor, fan, condenser and evaporator.
* Anti-theft system: Checking the functionality of sensors, alarms and immobilizer.

Other procedures:

* Coding and adaptation: Changing parameters or adapting control modules for a specific vehicle.
* Engine Control Module Reset: Resets the ECU memory to correct problems or prepare for further diagnostics.
* Software Update: Update control module software to improve performance or resolve errors.
