Car electrical diagnostics

1. Visual inspection

* Check the battery for corrosion, damage and loose connections.
* Check all wires, connectors and fuses for kinks, exposed wires and loose connections.
* Check the charging alternator for loose belts, damaged pulleys and rust.
* Check the starter for corrosion, damaged wires and loose connections.

2. Checking battery power

*Use a multimeter to check the battery voltage. Normal voltage should be around 12.6V with the engine off and around 14-15V with the engine running.
* Perform a load test on the battery to determine its ability to provide current.

3. Check the charging system

* Check the voltage at the generator terminals with the engine running. It should be around 14-15 V.
* Check the voltage regulator for proper operation.
* Check alternator belts, pulleys and wiring for damage or looseness.

4. Checking the starter

* Check the solenoid relay for proper operation.
* Check the starter motor to ensure it is operating properly and is not drawing excessive current.
* Check all starter wires, connectors and fuses for damage or looseness.

5. Checking the lighting system

* Check the headlights, brake lights, turn signals and parking lights for burnt out or loose connections.
* Check light switches and relays for proper operation.
* Check the lighting system wiring for damage or looseness.

6. Checking the ignition system

* Check the spark plugs for wear or damage.
* Check high voltage wires for damage or loose connections.
* Check the ignition coil for proper operation and not drawing excessive current.
* Check the electronic control unit (ECU) for proper operation.

7. Checking electronic systems

* Check all sensors and actuators for proper operation.
* Check the ECU for errors and malfunctions.
* Perform a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) scan to identify any potential problems.

Additional Tips

* Use wiring diagrams and service manuals for accurate diagnosis and repair.
* Observe all safety precautions when working with electrical components.
