Signs of a faulty automatic transmission torque converter:

1. Slipping when shifting gears:

* Increasing engine speed without corresponding acceleration.
* Burnt oil or metal smell in transmission fluid.

2. Vibration or noise:

* Vibration when changing gears or when starting off.
* Grinding or howling noise from the transmission when the engine is running.

3. Jerks or jolts when changing gears:

* Sharp jerks or jolts when shifting to a higher or lower gear.
* Difficulty shifting gears in certain driving modes.

4. Overrunning clutch is not connected:

* Lack of traction during hard acceleration.
* Constantly high engine speeds when driving at cruising speed.

5. Transmission overheating:

* Increased transmission fluid temperature.
* Strange odor or smoke from the transmission.
* Enabling the emergency mode of the automatic transmission, which limits the operation of the transmission.

6. Transmission fluid leaks:

* Transmission fluid leaks from the torque converter or other automatic transmission components.
* Reduced transmission fluid level.
* The appearance of transmission fluid stains under the car.

7. Other signs:

* Difficulty starting the engine.
* Difficulty shifting gears from park or reverse.
* Limiting vehicle movement at low speeds.
