Automatic transmission input shaft speed sensor
* Located on the automatic transmission housing, in the area of the pump drive shaft.
* Monitors the speed of rotation of the automatic transmission input shaft, transmitting information to the electronic control unit (ECU) of the transmission.
* The ECU uses this signal to determine optimal gear shift timing, adjust oil pressure and other transmission control functions.
Automatic transmission output shaft speed sensor
* Located on the rear of the automatic transmission, usually next to the driveshaft mounting flange.
* Monitors the speed of rotation of the automatic transmission output shaft, transmitting information to the transmission ECU.
* The ECU uses this signal to detect transmission slip, adjust oil pressure and other transmission control functions.
Automatic transmission secondary shaft speed sensor
* Located inside the automatic transmission, usually on the secondary shaft.
* Monitors the speed of rotation of the automatic transmission secondary shaft, transmitting information to the transmission ECU.
* The ECU uses this signal to control the operation of the planetary gearbox of the automatic transmission and optimize the operation of the transmission.
Symptoms of faulty automatic transmission speed sensors
* Difficulty shifting gears
*Transmission slipping
* Incorrect automatic transmission operating modes
* Enabling automatic transmission emergency mode
*Check Engine light comes on with associated error codes
