Using a variable speed drive (CVT)
A CVT is a type of automatic transmission that provides smooth acceleration and fuel efficiency. Here’s how to use it:
Start of movement:
1. Place the gear shift lever in the “D” (Drive) position.
2. Press the accelerator pedal to start driving.
Gear shift:
The CVT does not have traditional gears. Instead, it uses a belt and pulley system to smoothly change gear ratios. This means there is no jerking or jerking when changing gears.
Driving Modes:
Some CVTs have additional driving modes:
* D (Normal): Standard mode for everyday driving.
* S (Sport): Keeps the engine at higher rpm for more power and acceleration.
* L (Low): For low speed driving, such as towing or off-road driving.
Manual gear shift:
Some CVTs allow you to change gears manually using steering wheel paddles. This can be useful for improving performance or controlling engine braking.
Driving Tips:
* Avoid harsh acceleration and braking: CVTs are designed for smooth acceleration, so sudden maneuvers can shorten their life.
*Serve your transmission regularly: Follow the manufacturer’s service schedules to ensure the CVT is operating properly.
* Use quality transmission fluid: CVTs require a special CVT fluid that meets the manufacturer’s specifications.
* Warm up the transmission before driving: In cold weather, allow the transmission to warm up for a few minutes before driving to allow the fluid to reach operating temperature.
Note: Shift lever and steering wheel paddle positions may vary depending on vehicle make and model. Check your vehicle’s owner’s manual for details.
