Complete oil change in a Toyota automatic transmission

Materials and tools:

* New gear oil that meets manufacturer’s recommendations
* New oil pan gasket
*Transmission filter (if necessary)
* Oil pan plug with new washer
* Sealant for gasket
* Funnel
* Key for pallet plug
* Screwdriver or hex wrench (to remove filter if required)
* Oil pump (optional)

Steps:

1. Drain old oil

* Make sure the engine and transmission are warm.
* Turn off the engine and park the car on a level surface.
* Place a container under the gearbox to collect old oil.
* Locate the oil pan plug and remove it using a wrench.
* Allow the old oil to drain completely.

2. Removing the oil pan

*If the oil pan needs to be removed, use a screwdriver or hex wrench to remove the bolts.
* Carefully remove the oil pan from the transmission and drain the remaining oil.
* Clean the oil pan and the surrounding surface of the gearbox from old oil and dirt.

3. Filter replacement (if necessary)

*If the transmission filter needs to be replaced, locate it and remove it using a screwdriver or hex wrench.
* Install the new filter and tighten it by hand.

4. Installing the oil pan

* Apply sealant to the new oil pan gasket and install it to the oil pan.
* Install the oil pan onto the transmission and tighten the bolts.

5. Filling with new oil

*Use a funnel to pour new transmission oil through the dipstick hole.
* Fill with the amount of oil recommended by the manufacturer.

6. Checking the oil level

* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Shift the gear selector through all positions and return it to the park position (P).
* Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean and reinsert it.
* Check the oil level on the dipstick. It should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks.

7. Adding oil (if necessary)

* If the oil level is low, add the required amount and check the level again.

8. Cleaning the drain plug

* Clean the pan plug and replace the washer.
* Install the pan plug and tighten it.

9. Reset oil aging counter (optional)

*Some Toyota models may require you to reset the oil aging counter. Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual for specific instructions.

Note:

*Always follow your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations regarding fluid types and intervals.
* A complete oil change in an automatic transmission is usually required every 60,000-100,000 km or every 3-5 years, depending on operating conditions.
* Regular maintenance of the automatic transmission is crucial to ensure its durability and trouble-free operation.
