Materials and tools:
* New gear oil (type and volume according to manufacturer specifications)
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Automatic transmission filter
* Funnel
* Screwdriver
* Wrench
* Pliers
* Gloves
Steps:
1. Prepare the car: Place the car on a lift or jack it up. Make sure the car is on a level surface.
2. Drain the old oil: Find the automatic transmission pan on the bottom of the car. Unscrew the drain plug and drain the old oil into a prepared container.
3. Remove the automatic transmission pan: After the oil has been drained, unscrew the bolts securing the pan to the automatic transmission. Carefully remove the tray.
4. Replace the gasket and filter: Clean the surfaces of the pan and automatic transmission from the old gasket. Install a new gasket and automatic transmission filter.
5. Install the pan: Reinstall the pan and tighten the bolts in the order specified in the repair manual.
6. Fill with new oil: Using a funnel, pour new transmission oil into the automatic transmission through the filler hole (usually located on the side of the automatic transmission).
7. Check the oil level: Start the engine and let it idle. Shift the gear selector through all positions and return it to the park position (P). Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick and, if necessary, add oil to the required level.
8. Reset the oil change counter: If your vehicle has an automatic transmission oil change counter, reset it to zero in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
9. Check for leaks: Check the transmission pan and the area around it for leaks. If there are leaks, tighten bolts or replace worn gaskets.
Notes:
* The automatic transmission oil change interval is specified in the vehicle’s operating manual.
*Transmission oil type may vary depending on vehicle year and model.
* To completely drain the old oil, it is recommended to raise the front of the car.
*If your vehicle has multiple transmissions (such as a four-wheel drive or SUV), you may need to change the oil in each transmission separately.
