Tools required for replacement:
* Set of keys
* Pliers
* Container for draining automatic transmission fluid
* Automatic transmission pan plug (if necessary)
* Automatic transmission coarse filter
Replacement steps:
1. Raise and secure the vehicle.
2. Drain the automatic transmission fluid.
* Find the automatic transmission pan drain plug and place a container under it to drain it.
* Unscrew the drain plug and allow the liquid to drain into the container.
3. Remove the automatic transmission pan.
* Unscrew the bolts securing the pan to the automatic transmission housing.
* Remove the pan carefully, as there may be residual automatic transmission fluid in it.
4. Remove the old coarse filter.
* The coarse filter is usually attached with bolts or snaps.
* Unscrew the bolts or press the latches and remove the filter.
5. Install a new coarse filter.
* Position the new filter in line with the old one.
* Secure the filter with bolts or snaps.
6. Install the automatic transmission pan.
* Clean the mating surface of the pallet from the gasket material.
*Apply new gasket or sealant to the pan mating surface.
* Install the pan and tighten the bolts.
7. Fill with automatic transmission fluid.
*Use a funnel to pour the recommended amount and type of automatic transmission fluid into the transmission.
* Check the automatic transmission fluid level using the dipstick and add if necessary.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Start the engine and let it run.
* Shift the gear lever through all positions and check the automatic transmission fluid level again.
Note:
* It is recommended to change the automatic transmission coarse filter every 30,000-60,000 km or more often in severe operating conditions.
* If the automatic transmission fluid is very dirty, replace it too.
